Terrorism can not be defeated with military means alone. Terrorism is an ideology and only ideology can defeat terrorism. However, it is essential that military means are used to physically flush out terrorists/extremists from Buner and whole of Swat. At the same time, political and religious establishment should be brought together to oppose extremism and terrorism. Unless, political and religious establishment speak out against these extermists Pakistan can not win this war against extremism.
What is happening is that political and religious leaderships keeps quite when extremist take over areas and bomb civilians, army and police. However, the same political and religious leadership always speaks against army, police and government when the government reacts and collateral damage happens.
At the same time, army operations have been totally useless. Army does not seem to have intelligence or willingness to take on militants. The movement they move into an area , they are content with bombing and use of artillery. Do our most intelligent army officers seriously believe that they can defeat these taliban by bombing whole villages to the ground ?
