For months now, terrorist are operating an FM radio in Swat region of Pakistan. This channel is being used to terrorize the local population and threaten the democratic representatives of the people.
The government of Pakistan is pretending that it is not possible for it to close down this radio station, because Taliban keep relocating it. In this day and time there can be no greater silly excuse than this. Even if government of Pakistan does not have ability to locate this FM radio, it should ask its so called allies in war on terror to help locate the radio station. And in case such help is not given, the people of Pakistan should be told, that such help has been refused.
But having said that, it is possible to block the transmissions of this radio by relaying competing FM radio transmissions at the same frequencies the terrorist are using. This will automatically cancel the transmission of their radio station, thus making it useless for them. Pakistan army should have knowledge and expertise to cancel out Taliban FM transmissions but perhaps it is not interested in doing such a thing. The government of Pakistan, government of NWFP or indeed any public/private can take initiative and use either radio of Pakistan or a privately owned FM radio station to block terror radio transmissions by transmitting at the same frequencies as them.
The government of Pakistan and its army is not taking effective steps to stop transmission of this radio station and is thus effectively helping to legitimize terror that is being inflicted on poor, unarmed and thus helpless people of Swat.
The Pakistan army has been conducting military operation for months in Swat, however it has been an open secret that it has not taken any meaningful action against Taliban. At the same time heavy artillery and air power has been used against civilians.
It is thought that army is doing this deliberately in order to vacate these areas from civilians. Ordinary people of Swat and pathans in particular now see army as an ally of Taliban, and thus using its power ruthlessly against common man. This is more like plan to disintegrate Pakistan, where various warlords have been created in and around almost all major cities and towns. A power and governance vaccum is being created at the same to ensure smooth transition to chaos and an era of warlords in specially Pakhtun areas of NWFP.
