Rule of law has been severly compromised in american wars in Iraq and during war on terror. This has resulted in more and more people turning to terrorist and extremist organizations to get justice. The phenomenon is similar to people going to Don Carleoine in God father movie to get quick and meaningful justice. The only difference is that in Pakistan, Afghanistan and certain point of time in Iraq whole provinces are being controlled by these extremist organizations whose main appeal is providing quick and meaningful justice to ordinary people.
During Bush's decade United States has played a major role in compromising rule of law in Pakistan and around the world. This has included:
a). Presenting false/misleading and doctored evidence to United Nations and to the world.
b). Supporting Musharraf dictatorship.
c). Abductions, illegal detentions and illegal methods of interrogations.
d). Involvement in assault on judiciary in Pakistan.
e). Supporting corruption of key government functionaries such as top generals, bureaucrats and politicians.
and many more.
Now United States must change it approach in a number of ways, including:
a). It will have to fight its wars within legal frameworks.
b). It has to crack down on corruptions and illegal ways of hiding money. It has to help expose corruption of top leadership in Pakistan and around the world.
c). It has to use its influence to strengthen rule of law and democracy in Pakistan. One way to strengthen rule of law would be to help undo illegal steps of Musharraf and restore judiciary. The world must know that if people of Pakistan don't get protection and justice from government and judiciary then extremist organizations have already won the hearts and minds of people of Pakistan and this must not be allowed to happen.
d). It has stop using unproven accusations to advance political and geo-strategic agenda. It should also stop encouraging other countries such as India from using unproven accusations to justify taking unilateral actions.
