While handling economic meltdown, American congress first changed economic rescue plans to shift focus from financial institutions to real economy. But then the big three auto companies have been asked to come with detailed revival plans. So there is actual focus on understanding the situation by in-depth analysis.
In comparison with economic meltdown, the American congress, media and establishment has to produce an in-depth analysis of war on terror in Afghanistan. So lets look at the details of what has gone on in Afghanistan in the name of war on terror.
The international forces have been in Afghanistan since 2001. So, lets look at what they have done there. Their main objective was war on Al-Qaeda and especially to capture Al-Qaeda leadership.
However, the actual ground strategy is totally contradictory. The main facts supporting this conclusion are:
1). Why was Osama bin Ladin not cornered in Tora Bora ?
Americans failed to deploy their ground troops to nail Osama in Tora Bora. Was that part of deliberate strategy ?
2). Why Americans failed to train and equip Afghan forces to sufficient level to secure Afghanistan ?
International forces will never have sufficient numbers to secure critical ground areas. And international forces are not occupiers. So why did Afghan security forces were not trained to sufficient numbers and sufficiently equipped in the past seven years to take care of their own security and give a helping hand in war on terror.
Is this a deliberate strategy to keep afghan forces weak and let the insecurity and violence spread across border into Pakistan. The impact of the violence on international forces is minimal as compared to its impact on Pakistan's security and stability. Simultaneously Afghanistan's long terms reliance on international troops can only be secured by keeping afghan forces under strength and under equipped.
It seems the strategy is to destabilize Pakistan, while using War on terror as excuse.
3). Is the deployement of American forces in Afghanistan is actually targeting Al-Qaeda ?
Americans and their allied forces in NATO are concentrated in afghan areas where there is no or limited Al-Qaeda presence. And this pattern of force deployment has continued for the past seven years. So is there any truth in War on terror.
The war on terror is a political slogan to achieve other political and military objectives.
The ground reality is that war on terror is not to exterminate Al-Qaeda but practically it has been used to strengthen Al-Qaeda.
Practically Al-Qaeda and its allies in Afghanistan such as Tehrik Taliban Pakistan and Balochistan Liberation Army have been given all-out support to destabilize Pakistan in a CIA led war.
Americans are not doing enough to block Afghan border and not doing anything to consolidate Afghan areas harboring Al-Qaeda and Taliban in a deliberate strategy.
There are many suggestions for blocking borders such as using barbed wires, establishing check posts, mining the border and so on. But these suggestions are rubbished while using illegal tools such as drone attacks, cross border incursions and so on.
The core of American analysis should be why Al-Qaeda was not cornered within Afghanistan and why is war on terror being exported to Pakistan using drone attacks?
It is the time that Americans look at their strategy in terms of consolidating and securing afghanistan by training and equiping Afghan forces. They should also secure afghan areas where Al-Qaeda and taliban are concentrated rather than having huge bases close to Afghan cities such as Kabul and Kandhar.
4). Why war on terror is being fought using illegal tools ?
The illegal tools being used in war on terror are :
a). Extra-ordinary renditions,
b). Unlawful extraditions, and illegal detentions, kidnappings, disappearances, killings and illegal interrogation methods.
If war on terror is a just war, then Americans needs all these illegal and inhuman methods. Why cant they sign proper agreements with friendly governments such as Pakistan to sort out all the aspects of this war.
The illegal practices of this war have to terminated, and this war has to be fought in a just and legal manner.
5). Role of Pakistan in this war
Pakistan calls itself ally in this war on terror. Our politicians and army officials proudly declare themselves American allies in this war. But as far as ground situation is concerned Americans have not signed any agreement with Pakistan regarding cooperation in this war.
Unless there is formal agreement that guards Pakistan's rights, and outlines its responsibilities and lays down details of formal cooperation no Pakistani politician or civil servant is authorized to call Pakistan an American ally and gave any kind of cooperation regarding this. In fact people who are giving any such cooperation without any formal agreement between Pakistan and American governments are criminals and should be tried for high treason, because Americans are fighting an undeclared war on Pakistan.

New american troops are supposed to go to east of Afghanistan where Al-Qaeda is based. However, it has taken american 7 years to focus on these areas despite the main objective of Afghanistan being to focus on Al-Qaeda. Even then the major focus is on drone attacks, which are only fanning further violence in Pakistan.
