Imran Khan today came to speak at Imperial College London. His objective was to promote his political vision and his political party(Pakistan Tehreek Insaaf). He faced a lot of questions, but most interesting of those were whether he would be able to grow out of one man party. Would his party ever have a spectrum of leadership that is well known to Pakistanis ? He was still strong on his rhetoric as always, but this time he was showing a natural political leadership. He was also more mature, and aware and able to talk to whole of audience. He still could not answer the question about strength of his party convincingly but he did lay out some examples of successes. Imran was showing glimpses the experience and capacity to mobilize his party and the masses.
He was showing capacity to reach out to common man. He laid out example of successful organization in Islamabad(the poshest of posh cities), where Tehreek Insaaf was able to gain 8000 thousand members. At one point he quoted some figures that Tehreek Insaaf has become third most popular secular party in Pakistan. He also laid his emphasis on party organization. People were also anxiously asking him on party organization, which was most encouraging as it showed that people wanted Tehreek Insaaf to gain organizational strength.
On the other hand, he was also showing signs that he has not grown out of his romantic, and idealistic side which he mentioned as his strength. He can retain his idealistic side, but he also has to grow another side which is practical side of things if he ever hopes to be successful.
On the whole, it seems Imran still has to do a lot of work in terms of organization of his political party otherwise he would still take a lot of time and may even be forgotten without fulfilling his political promise. The way event at Imperial proceeded, where only Imran did the talking and his UK organizer hardly spoke for a minture showed that TI does not have leadership and team work.
In words of Leonardis the spartan greek king who took 300 soldiers to war against Iranian army number in hundereds of thousands," I have more soldiers because my soldiers are professional hardcore soldiers". Imran should listen to Leonardis, he needs professional hardcore leadership and party workers and not legions of fans, if he is ever to make a serious impression on political landscape. For that to happen, he as to do serious work within the party, rather than having the big gatherings. Imran needs to build a core team of few hundred leaders capable of winning local, provincial and national assembly elections and leading the nation towards the system that he visualizes.

The speak of Imran khan at imperial college london is very good because in this the political vision is improve and understand his political party.
